The City of Overbrook and the Kanza Rail-Trails Conservancy held a dedication ceremony on May 10th for a new trailhead on the Landon Nature Trail.
There will be a Landon Nature Trail dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 6th at 10:15 am at SE 45th St. in Topeka.
There will be a trail bike ride starting from SE 37th St. at 10:00 am, ending at SE 45th St. The Kaw Valley Bike Club will start its bike ride from Monroe School at 15th & Monroe at 9:30 am. After the dedication they will continue to Tecumseh Rd.
Shawnee County Parks and Recreation has completed laying chat on the previously unfinished link on the Landon Trail between SE 45th St. & SE 51th St. in SE Topeka (.75 miles). Cyclists can now freely travel 11.7 miles from 15th and Monroe St. to Tecumseh Rd.
“Many kudos to John Knight, Terry Bertels and Bill Ripahn for seeing that the project was completed despite a bare bones budget,” said Bill Lucero of the Kaw Valley Bike Club.
“I would hesitate to call that section ‘family friendly’ yet as the chat remains soft, particularly in the most northern portion–it needs a roller to pack down the chat and perhaps a few more heavy rains as well.”
