Currently, work crews are replacing three damaged bridges west of Pomona. An additional steel girder bridge is also being upgraded on that section of trail. After the bridges are complete, crushed limestone will be installed. This work is scheduled for completion in the first part of 2017.
The section of trail west of Ottawa, including the steel girder bridge over the Marias Des Cygnes River, is also under construction and is scheduled to be completed by September.
With the Flint Hills Nature Trail being selected to receive additional funding from the Transportation Alternative Program, future improvements plans are currently being developed.
